Many computers can hook up to TVs to provide a much larger display and this can be useful for something such as giving a presentation. Below are steps to take when connecting your windows computer to your TV.

  1. Determine which type of cord you need to connect your computer and TV. The three main connectors are HDMI, DVI, and VGA. If your computer and TV have HDMI ports, this is the method you should use. Connecting with an HDMI cord is the most convenient method and it provides the best quality.  It is the only connection which transfers both audio and video through one cable.
  2. Purchase the cable. Be cautious when buying a cable because sometimes companies can attempt to convince you that their cable is better than others. If you’re looking for a HDMI cord, all you have to do is make sure it works.
  3. An adapter is needed if your computer and TV don’t have matching connectors.
  4. Connect your computer to your TV using the cord.
  5. Switch to the correct input on your TV.
  6. Switch your computer to the TV’s display. This is done in different ways depending on the type of the computer.
  7. If necessary, make adjustments to the resolution. If your screen appears blurry, your TV and computer monitor might have different resolutions.
